The song ” The Wheels on The Bus” is an American folk song that is a very popular rhyme amongst kids in English speaking countries. This song/rhyme dates back to the year 1939 and has since became an extremely well known rhyme by children all over the world as it is growing popularity through translations in multiple different languages.The most common place it is sang is of course on the bus but also being sung in the car, at home and even being taught to children in school!

It is a well proven fact that rhymes and songs help effect growing children tremendously and “the wheels on the bus” is no different! This rhyme teaches multiple different skills such as Verbal Skills. They learn verbal skills by repetitively singing the song, by doing this they will develop much more confidence when speaking and this will stay with them as they grow up. Another skill developed is Social Skills. Social skills are gained when the rhyme or song is sung by children in large groups. The rhyme “The Wheels on The Bus” is repetitive and easy for children to catch on to, there for is a great song for a large group of children to interact with. This group activity will help them when developing social skills as kids that will carry on through there adult lives as the developmental ages 0-5 are extremely important. Cognitive Skills are also developed with this rhyme/song. They learn colors, shapes and even motion this way. In this rhyme specifically they learn motion as they sing the lyrics “the wheels on the bus go round and round”. Though there are many more the last one I am writing about is Memory Skills. Memory skills are developed with the repetition of the song making it easier for the children to learn and memorize words, colors, functions, etc.

Young children are much more likely to remember and repeat a rhyme as it is much more easy for them to remember!
