Little Bo Beep in the Classroom

Little Bo Peep is a fun and older nursery rhyme, that is sung all around the world. This rhyme is an English rhyme that has been around for generations, and still going strong. Little Bo Peep was originally recorded in 1870, by a composer named James William Elliott. It is said to believe, that the first line of this nursery rhyme, actually existed in the early eighteenth century.

This is a fun and easy song to memorize and sing with children. Young children in classrooms are singing this song, as one of their many nursery rhymes that they learn. By teaching small kids cute, fun songs to sing at a young age, teachers and parents are actually helping inhibit their speech and language skills. Nursery rhymes have been around for centuries, and are still used today to teach and empower young minds.
This nursery rhyme teaches young children about Bo Peep, a young girl who loses her sheep. The girl has no idea where to find them, so the song states that if you leave them alone, then they’ll come home. This is implying basically that the sheep will find their own way home. If you listen to the whole song, which most classrooms only sing the first verse, it actually states that Bo Peep has fallen asleep. When she fell asleep, this is when the sheep leave her. This part teaches kids about responsibility, in the way that if they don’t pay attention then they will lose things, the way that Bo Peep lost her sheep.

Many nursery rhymes have hidden messages in them from history, this song does not appear to, at least nothing was recorded about it. The original full length song does however, have many old words in it that are words used back from the eighteenth century. These words are all old English words, and proves that the song is originally an American song. The most popular belief is how the main job in the eighteenth century, was to be a shepherd. This is why the song is about a shepherdess, Bo Peep and the biggest problem that a shepherd could have, is losing their sheep. This song was very entertaining to those in the eighteenth century, because they could relate to the song. However in todays world, Bo Peep is simply a cute short song to sing with young kids to pass the time and engage them in song.
Bo Peep is still being sung to this day of coarse, but many classrooms have taken a twist on it, and use it in plays as well, for small children. There are many variations to this song, but all in all it is a great rhyme for kids to learn new words, and have fun while doing it. Teachers and parents a like are all still singing this all type favorite nursery rhymes to small children.
