Best Song Written
johnny johnny Yes Papa is one of the best songs written. It is a classic because of it being created in 1985. Plus, it deals with a subject that children are prone too. Lying is a habit that a child will pick up to keep from getting into trouble. However, most children that do it can not cover their tracks well. This song brings that to light.
The Song’s Origins
In looking at the history of the song, we can see that it was created by a French singer. Jeanne Mas is her name and this rhyme was her second single off of her album of the same name. It was such a huge hit in France that it stayed on the top charts for a whole month. The song starts off asking Johnny if he is eating sugar, then the child says no. The father asks if he is telling a lie, which the child lies and says no. However, Johnny’s father asks him to open his mouth, where the evidence is seen clearly. I believe this song is such a huge success because as a parent it can be relatable. You ask your child if they have done something they should not have, and you find yourself not listening to the truth but a lie.
The Meaning Of The Song
This song teaches children that it is not ok to lie to anyone. At an early age, they should learn to always tell the truth. It could save their life and keep them out a world of trouble. Johnny Johnny does not have any consequences in the rhyme. However, a child needs to learn that there will be a punishment if they lie about something. Getting kids to understand that once they let a lie come out of their mouth, that can be a trust breaker. Everything they say would have to be scrutinized to find out if it’s true. Once they find out that they can not be trusted in that manner, then they will start to tell the truth. I am surprised that a nursery rhyme along those lines has not been brought out before this one. Of course, there was the Disney classic named Pinocchio in which a toy maker’s dummy grow a long nose for lying. Having a nursery rhyme to point out the wrong behavior does help.

Although this song is fun, it does have a very serious message. Because of this nursery rhyme, children everywhere will Be inspired to tell the truth and enjoy doing it.
