Development Children’s’ Minds Through Rhymes
Nursery rhymes have been helpful to many parents since its creation. It helps children fall asleep quicker as well as entertain them. However, you will be surprised that great minds have been developed by something as simple as rhyme. Here are a few nursery rhymes that are familiar to us and how they can expand a child’s mind.
1. The ABC Song
If it wasn’t for that song, I wouldn’t be writing this article. I mean this is one of the most popular rhymes that are given taught in school. It provides all the letters of the alphabet and the child is supposed to sing it. Within time they slowly memorize their alphabets and become pro spellers. Well not exactly. They just learn how to write.
2. Five Little Monkeys
This rhyme teaches children basic math skills. Specifically about subtraction. In the song you have to sing how many monkeys there are. Each time a monkey falls and they lose a monkey. The next verse then describes how many monkeys are left and then another monkey falls. This song can be sung forwards or backwards as well.
3. Hickory Dickory Dock
You’ve all heard the Hickory Dicory Dock song with the little mouse that climbs up the clock and what ever the clock strikes a certain time. The poor little mouse falls off the arm. The mouse would run up the clock landing on a number. The clock would strike and the mouse would fall. However, you can sing it in numerical order or backwards. Either way it will still teach kids how to count forward and back.
4. Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
This rhyme is interesting. It teaches the child quick thinking, body parts and memorization. As the song goes on, it get quicker and quicker. The song describes the head, shoulders, the knees and toes. After the second verse it describe the eyes, the ears, the nose and the mouth. Throughout the song the child slowly memorizes the directions, strengthening their muscle memory and hand-eye coordination. The song speeds up and within a few minutes after the song, the child finally memorizes every move and lyric. It takes a while for them to develop its habits. But it is a crucial lesson they must get used to. Imagine singing that fast while pointing at your limbs. That is more of a workout then a lesson.
5. Bingo
Bingo, you got! you thought right. If you were thinking about the song with the dog and his farmer. Yes, this is it. What is so special about this song you ask? It teaches kids how to spell. By slowly spelling the word, it trains the child how to spell words without an issue. In the song they dissect the word so the child can learn to master it. The song spells out the dog’s name. The begin spelling the full word then remove a letter with each verse. Sometimes the song is sung backwards. That happens usually when the child has mastered the song entirely. You get the drift. They can carry that with them for their future. Whenever they stumble upon a word and forget its spelling. That technique is very useful.
Now we are professional writers, spellers and mathematicians. It is time to pass it on to our spawn. Kids like to have fun and play. Without a doubt they will love to learn, read, and write with these rhymes. Sing a few to them every night and watch as your child learns dramatically, because the future is in our hands.
