Singing songs is a time honor tradition for helping a child to learn certain things. Songs also play a part in the key developmental stage in a child’s life from newborn to five years old. Parents use simple little songs such as nursery rhymes to play with their children from the time they are a baby to toddler age. When a child first enters school they will discover those singing songs in the classroom are part of the overall learning experience.
Incorporating Music in the Classroom
In the early years of school teachers will use songs to teach kids the alphabet, numbers, and even how to spell words. Kids will even learn better communication skills. Some examples of this is learning better vocabulary skills by learning more about the different types of sounds that different letters make and even learning more about sentence structure all while singing a simple little song that is easy to remember. One such a song that is a good example of teaching a child spelling while making it fun is Bingo, which of course is all about spelling out that dogs name than eliminating a letter while you clap your hands. Another song that incorporates clapping the hands and doing other activities is “If Your Happy and You Know It”. Through that particular song a child with doing different body movements which is good for sharpening their motor skills. This simple little song is also a good way to help a child hone in more on their attention span and concentration as they are instructed what to do next.
Other Kids Songs
There are numerous songs in which educators and parents use to teach young kids. Some of these songs come from the beloved Mother Goose Rhymes. As for the origins of these, they date back centuries, with their origin being somewhere in the later 18th century to early nineteenth century. Whenever these cute little songs and rhymes associated with them came to be doesn’t really matter though, their messages, have been passed on through generations, and are still used as a way to play with a child while teaching them at the same time.
Educating through songs
Most parents and teachers alike will probably say that the best way to educate a child is while they are having fun. So, the best teaching tool is something a child loves to do. This is probably the main reasons why songs and even music is used in classrooms. Kids love the music they love songs and being able to interact during the song. Using songs will provide the teacher with another outlet in which to teach through while taking a break from the usual lesson plan. The bottom line is entertaining a child and they tend to learn more and singing simple little kid songs in a classroom or at home is the perfect way to do just that.
